I found some information on this site: http://www.treatmentformesothelioma.net
Mesothelioma is an incurable cancer, and long term survival is rare. Surgery to remove the pleura, lung ipsilateral phrenic nerve hemidiaphragm and pericardium in combination with chemotherapy or radiation may be considered, even if it does not change the prognosis or survival time. No treatment significantly prolonged survival. The average survival at diagnosis of 8 to 15 MB, depending on the location and type of cell. Some patients Patients usually more young people with shorter duration of symptoms, have a more favorable prognosis, sometimes surviving for several years after diagnosis. Pleurodesis symptomatic treatment pleurectomy or pleural effusion care and relief of dyspnea of opioid analgesia, and sometimes chemotherapy, radiation therapy to reduce the tumor and symptom relief therapies complete surgical resection is usually not feasible. Combination of pemetrexed (a folate antimetabolite) and cisplatin shows promising, but needs to be studied further. The major treatment center is supportive care and relief of pain and dyspnea. Given the diffuse nature of the disease, radiation is generally unsuitable for the exception to treat localized pain and metastasis of the needle tract. Generally not used for the treatment of nerve root pain. To help to reduce dyspnea caused by pleural effusion, pleurodesis or pleurectomy can be used. Adequate analgesia is important but difficult to achieve. Usually opiates, both transdermal and delivered through epidural catheters are used. Use of chemotherapy of cisplatin relieves symptoms in most cases and some sometimes decreases the size of the tumor. Multimodal treatment is advocated by some authorities. Intrapleural injection of granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor or interferon-γ1b, IV ranpirnase (ribonuclease), and gene therapies are study.
